Tassos Haniotis is a Senior Guest Research Scholar of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and a Special Adviser on Strategy for Sustainable Productivity of the Forum for the Future of Agriculture (FFA). He is also member of the Scientific Policy Advisory Board of two Horizon Research Projects, the EU Council High Level Group on Agri-food System Innovation, the EU Nitrogen Expert Panel and the Geostrategic Europe Task Force. He brings more than three decades of professional experience in agriculture, especially in the areas of agricultural policy, US-EU agricultural trade policy relations, food security, farm policy evaluation, and commodity market analysis. This experience was built during his career in the European Commission, which he joined in 1989 and from which he retired in 2022 as Director for Strategy and Policy Analysis in the DG for Agriculture and Rural development (DG AGRI). He previously held posts as Head of Unit in Agricultural Policy Perspectives and Agricultural Trade Policy Analysis, Deputy Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Franz Fischler, and Agricultural Counsellor of the EU Delegation in Washington, DC. He was also the Commission representative at the G20 AMIS Rapid Response Forum from 2012-22. An active member of International and European academic associations in his field, Tassos received a Fellow Award of the European Association of Agricultural Economists, the Outstanding Alumni Award of the College of Agriculture of the University of Georgia, and a Honorary Doctorate Degree from the School of Agronomy, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He holds an Economics degree from the Athens University of Economics and Business in his native Greece, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia, USA, and was visiting Fellow at the Centre for European Agricultural Studies, Wye College, University of London.
